Center Physician

Job Description

The Physician is responsible for monitoring all decisions of donor suitability and safety made by the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic. They will provide medical expertise and authority for Grifols and guidance for Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedics regarding all medical procedures and techniques. Furthermore, the Physician will regularly review and revise the relevant standard operating procedures of Grifols and will justify these to the regulatory body if necessary.

*Position Responsibilities:*

1. Overseeing donor selection criteria, algorithms and decisions in all Plasma Centers.

2. Providing consultation and assurance regarding donor safety and care to the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic and the Quality Systems Manager.

3. Developing and revising policies and procedures compliant with current medical practices.

4. Training and providing guidance regarding technical and medical procedures to the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic.

5. Responding to medical inquiries from Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic in a timely manner.

6. Monitoring the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic and evaluating their performance by conducting skills assessments, annual competencies and other evaluations of job performance as deemed necessary.

7. Reviewing and signing-off on the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic's work on a weekly basis.

8. Inform donors with confirmed positive transmissible disease marker testing resulting in an indefinite deferral

9. Reviewing donor serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) test results within the required timeframe.

10. Responding and provision of advice regarding medically-related donor complaints.

11. Available to oversee processes at the local Plasma Center in-person for a minimum of 4 hours per week as defined in the Consulting Services contract.

*Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:*

* Active MD license in Canada
* At least 3 years of experience practicing in Canada, preferably plasma/blood bank experience
* Proven ability to train and effectively communicate instructions
* Available for consultation by phone or in person
* Proven managerial skills

Note: Training hours will be paid at regular rate per Consulting Services contract.
