<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p><p>Overview</p><p><br />Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for the design, programming, and deployment of<br />industrial control systems, including control panels, PLC/HMI/SCADA programming, and automation architecture.<br />The role includes hands-on support for system commissioning at customer sites and integration of IoT/IIoT<br />technologies for remote monitoring, data logging, and analytics in smart manufacturing environments.</p><p><br />Primary Duties</p><p></p><p><strong>• <span >Engineering/Technical</span> Responsibilities</strong><br><br>• Prepare, review, and approve drawings, bills of materials, and other engineering documentations.<br />• Review and interpret project specifications, engineering codes, and standards to ensure compliance during<br />all phases of the design and manufacturing process.<br />• Issue technical documents and drawing packages for the manufacture of products.<br />• Provide engineering and technical support to Internal (Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Quality<br />departments) and external clients.<br />• Participate in client meetings, kick-off meetings, design review meetings, operation meetings<br />• Ensure that all electrical control panels meet regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal<br />quality standards.</p><p><br /><strong>• Control Panel Design</strong></p><p><br />• Design and specify industrial control panels compliant with UL 508A, CSA C22.2, and NFPA 79 standards.<br />• Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, I/O lists, and BOMs using CAD tools (AutoCAD<br />Electrical, SEE Electrical, EPLAN).<br />• Select and size electrical components (breakers, contactors, PLCs, VFDs, safety relays, etc.) for process<br />equipment.<br />• Collaborate with manufacturing for panel build, conduct FAT, and support documentation control.</p><p><br /><strong>• Automation and Programming</strong></p><p><br />• Develop PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, etc.) and HMI applications to control industrial<br />systems.<br />• Implement control logic for process sequences, alarms, interlocks, and safety shutdown systems.<br />• Configure industrial networks including EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, etc.<br />• Integrate VFDs, soft starters, instrumentation (RTDs, thermocouples, pressure/flow transmitters), and<br />actuators.</p><p></p><p><strong>• Site Installation & Commissioning</strong></p><p></p><p>• Participate in on-site commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of control systems and automation<br />equipment.<br />• Verify wiring, perform I/O checks, test interlocks, and validate control sequences against functional<br />requirements.<br />• Provide technical support during site acceptance testing (SAT) and customer handover.</p><p></p><p><strong>• IoT / IIoT Integration</strong></p><p><br><br>• Integrate control systems with edge devices, gateways, and cloud platforms for real-time data access and<br />analytics.<br />Thermon Canada Inc. Role Profile 2<br />• Enable remote monitoring, data logging, and performance dashboards using IIoT tools (e.g., MQTT, OPC<br />UA, REST APIs).<br />• Collaborate with software teams on Industry 4.0 initiatives, predictive maintenance, and digital twin<br />development.<br />• Ensure data security and connectivity reliability in OT/IT convergence environments.</p><p><br /><strong>• Project Documentation & Support</strong></p><p><br />• Create detailed control narratives, sequence of operations (SoO), and user manuals.<br />• Support cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, field service) during the full project lifecycle.<br />• Provide post-commissioning support, troubleshooting, and system optimization remotely or on-site.</p><p></p><p><strong>Safety</strong></p><p><br />• Ensure a safe workplace, including compliance with established safety laws, regulations, codes, policies, and<br />procedures.</p><p></p><p><strong>Education and Qualifications</strong></p><p><br><br>• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.<br />• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SEE Electrical and/or SOLIDWORKS<br />Electrical.<br />• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is an asset.<br />• Minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial working experience with a focus on power systems, control systems<br />and automation. Experience in process heating systems, skid-mounted units, or energy systems is a strong asset.<br />• PLC experience with medium and low voltage equipment.<br />• Working knowledge with PLC programming is preferred. Proficiency with industrial PLC/HMI platforms (e.g.,<br />Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, FactoryTalk View).<br />• Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for industrial automation (ISA/IEC 62443).<br />• Knowledge of cloud integration, edge computing, or OPC UA-based architectures is a strong asset.<br />• Working knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols.<br />• Familiar with the following codes and standards is preferred:<br />o Canadian Electrical Code, CSA 22.1, CSA 22.2 No.14, 25, 30<br />o NFPA 70, 496<br />o UL 508, 508A, 698, 698A<br />o Applicable IEC standards for both unclassified area and hazardous area (IEC 60079-0 & 60079-1)<br />o ATEX, Low Voltage, EMC directives</p><p></p><p><strong>Skills</strong></p><p><br />• Able to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.<br />• Strong written, communication skills and the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.<br />• Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong electrical design background and attention to detail.<br />• Knowledge of ERP systems used in manufacturing is preferred.<br />• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.<br />• Willingness to travel globally for commissioning and technical support (up to 20–30% as needed).</p></p></p>Browse Jobs in Canada by City
