<p><strong>Job duties and responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Install, repair, and maintain navigation, communication, and marine automation equipment on vessels.</li><li>Troubleshoot and service PLC-based systems, sensors, alarms, engine monitoring, and other automation-related systems.</li><li>Load and update manufacturers’ software, back up computers, and retrieve data from onboard systems.</li><li>Use knowledge of electronic theory, marine systems, and control circuitry to resolve complex technical problems.</li><li>Inspect, adjust, align, replace, or repair electronic and automation equipment, assemblies, and components using equipment manuals, schematics, soldering tools, hand/power tools, and electronic test instruments.</li><li>Accurately complete company service reports and related documentation.</li><li>Work independently under limited supervision, managing time and priorities efficiently while onboard vessels.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>Completion of a two- or three-year college program in electrical or electronics engineering technology, computer engineering technology, or an equivalent. Possession of higher education is a plus.</li><li>Must have 24-36 months of experience working as a Maritime Field Service Technician either in the commercial industry, fishing industry, the Canadian Coast Guard or the Canadian Navy.</li><li>Computer networking knowledge (Ethernet, serial communications protocols).</li><li>Knowledge of marine navigation equipment including but not limited to radars, gyrocompasses, autopilots, ECDIS, GMDSS, etc.</li><li>Strong knowledge of electronics theory and application.</li><li>Basic AC/DC electrical theory.</li><li>Ability to use DVM, oscilloscope, and other test equipment.</li><li>Interpersonal and communication skills.</li><li>Be physically fit. Work environment often requires lifting equipment weighing up to 50lbs, climbing ladders and masts, working at heights and being exposed to unpredictable weather conditions.</li><li>Fluent in English (spoken & written). Working knowledge of the French language is a plus.</li><li>Hold valid passport and driver’s license.</li><li>Authorized to work in Canada.</li><li>Dependable and willing to work a flexible schedule including overtime.</li><li>Some travel required to job locations and training courses.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Employment conditions : </strong></p><ul><li>Full time position based on 37.5hrs per week or regular time. Candidate must be willing to work overtime and on weekends when necessary.</li><li>Annual base salary range is between $65,000 and 75,000 CAD, commensurate with technician’s experience and capabilities.</li><li>Overtime work is required and is paid at 1.5x base hourly wage.</li><li>Alliance Nav will assume legal and administrative costs relating to immigration application for successful candidates and their families.</li><li>Following three months of service, you will be entitled to Group Health, Life, and Disability Insurance in accordance with Company policy. This plan is optional and is paid at 70% by the company and 30% by the employee.</li><li>You will also be entitled to a three-week vacation.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Employment location(s):</strong></p><ul><li>Candidate will be based in St. Catharines, Ontario but will be required to travel across various ports along the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway to attend client vessels.</li></ul>Browse Jobs in Canada by City
