Availability for call-in shifts<br /> <br /><b>Organizational Background</b><br><br>Sherwood Park Manor Long Term Care Home is a full-service non-profit Nursing Home licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our Values are: Choice, Collaboration, Compassion, Professionalism, Respect and Safety.<br><br><b>Position Overview</b><br><br>Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing our residents with quality care. In providing a range of nursing care to residents with a variety of physical and / or behavioural concerns, the RN will collaborate with health team members to facilitate positive outcomes for the resident.<br><br><b>Key Tasks and Responsibilities:</b> <br /> <ul><li>Provide nursing care in accordance with administrative policies, physician orders, and the Standards of Nursing Practice as described by the College of Nurses of Ontario.</li><li>Determine, collect and organize the information required for care planning by utilizing all available resources, reporting pertinent information to other members of the multidisciplinary health care team.</li><li>Collaborate and participate with other members of the health care team in care planning and to act as a resource person to other staff members.</li><li>Assess a resident's condition by recognizing and interpreting signs and symptoms and, where appropriate, initiate remedial health measures.</li><li>Assess, plan and implement appropriate interventions, and evaluate nursing care for individual residents.</li><li>Assume responsibility for the administration of medications and treatments as prescribed and for the safekeeping of drug and narcotics.</li><li>Identify and understand the needs of the residents, setting realistic short and long-goals.</li><li>Maintain records for each resident in compliance with policies of Sherwood Park Manor.</li><li>Assume maximum safety for residents and staff, ensuring incident or accident reports are completed.</li><li>Develop and modify the resident care plan as determined by the biopsychosocial assessment of the resident's individual needs, evaluating regularly for effectiveness.</li><li>Assist with health teaching for residents, including collaborating with the Assistant Director of Care and/or Director of Care in performance appraisals and reviews.</li><li>Perform additional related duties as required.</li></ul><br /><b>Skills and Knowledge:</b><br /> <ul><li>Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.</li><li>Experience working in Long Term Care desirable.</li><li>Current CPR and First Aid certification.</li><li>Skill in planning, co-ordinating and supervising the work of other nursing personnel.</li><li>Training in the Gentle Persuasive Approach and U-First is considered an asset.</li><li>Experience using PointClickCare an asset.</li></ul><br /><b>Soft Skills:</b><br /> <ul><li>The ability to act as a role model with staff, residents, and members of the public. This includes interacting tactfully and courteously with residents, families and visitors, and encouraging effective teamwork as a positive role model for other staff and students.</li><li>Provide effective support and supervision for the RPN, non-registered staff, support staff and students.</li><li>Effectively maintain positive relationships with other multidisciplinary team members, families and the public.</li><li>Demonstrate effective, professional oral and written communication.</li><li>The ability to manage emergency situations effectively and efficiently.</li><li>The maturity to assume accountability for one’s own actions.</li></ul><br /><b>Competencies</b><br /><b>Communication Skills</b><ul><li>Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare teams, ensuring clarity and compassion.</li><li>Listen actively to residents’ needs, concerns, and preferences, offering emotional support and reassurance.</li><li>Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided, including any changes in the resident’s condition.</li></ul><b>Safety and Infection Control</b><ul><li>Follow established protocols for infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).</li><li>Ensure the resident’s living environment is safe, clean, and free of hazards to prevent falls or accidents.</li><li>Respond appropriately to emergencies and accidents.</li></ul><b>Resident-Centered Care</b><ul><li>Respect and support residents preferences, values, and cultural beliefs in the care plan.</li><li>Advocate for the needs of the resident, ensuring their rights and wishes are respected in all interactions.</li><li>Tailor care to meet resident needs, maintaining flexibility and adaptability in caregiving.</li></ul><b>Teamwork and Collaboration</b><ul><li>Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, family members, and other support workers to deliver holistic care.</li><li>Participate in team meetings and care plan discussions to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.</li><li>Share knowledge and insights with colleagues to improve the overall care environment.</li></ul><b>Time Management and Organizational Skills</b><ul><li>Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to provide care in a timely manner.</li><li>Maintain an organized system for tracking resident care/or duties.</li><li>Adapt to changes in schedule or care needs, managing multiple tasks without compromising quality of care.</li></ul><b>Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity</b><ul><li>Show respect for diverse cultural, religious, and personal beliefs and values.</li><li>Provide care that is sensitive to the needs of the resident from various backgrounds.</li><li>Maintain a non-judgmental and inclusive attitude, ensuring all residents and colleagues feel valued and respected.</li></ul><b>Professionalism and Ethical Conduct</b><ul><li>Maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy laws and ethical guidelines.</li><li>Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism in appearance, behavior, and communication.</li><li>Exhibit empathy, patience, and respect in all interactions with residents, families, and colleagues.</li></ul> <b>Working Conditions:</b> <br><br>All while showing compassion and care to the Manor’s residents:<br /> <ul><li>Stand and walk for long periods</li><li>Sit for short periods</li><li>Bend, stoop, and carry</li><li>Push/pull wheeled equipment</li><li>Safely transfer and lift (up to 20 kg.) in accordance with Sherwood Park Manor’s transfer and lift procedures</li><li>Work day, evening, night shifts; weekends, holidays and for call-in shifts.</li><li>Must have an up to date 2 –step TB test.</li></ul><br /><b>Application Process:</b><br />Interested candidates should forward their resume and cover letter demonstrating how their sills, qualifications and background are a fit for this opportunity. <br><br><b>Commitment to Diversity and Accessibility</b><br />Sherwood Park Manor provides accommodation to any candidate upon request throughout the recruitment process.
