At BFP, we are committed to delivering quality products to every customer. Our Oakville facility’s product line includes the custom design and builds of hydraulic power units, hydraulic manifolds, multidiscipline projects, pneumatic panels, control panels, valve stands, and wire harnesses.

The hiring BFP location in Oakville is an industry leading build-to-order manufacturer of custom Hydraulic and Pneumatic solutions for various industrial and mobile applications. We are currently looking for a Shop Foreman to join our team.

Reports to: Engineering Manager.

Works in collaboration with: Production Planner, Design Team, Production Coordinator, Shipping/Receiving, Buyer, External Contractors and suppliers.

Oversees/Responsible for: Safety, quality and on time completion of all projects through the facility while providing leadership and mentorship to shop staff.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

  • Safely carry out all duties assigned to ensure compliance with all Health & Safety requirements.
  • Conduct daily scope of work meeting with shop staff to keep projects on schedule with promise dates.
  • Perform incoming inspection of purchased components and ensure outgoing quality of finished products prior to shipping.
  • Review Shop Copy drawings after project goes to assembly for familiarity, quality, and accuracy. Proactively communicate any identified inconsistencies/potential issues.
  • Manage timesheets and allocations of labor hours for all staff in the shop.
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and technical support to shop employees. Mentor, support, and help mechanics, technicians, painter and shipping/receiving with all projects to ensure on time delivery.
  • Take lead on ensuring all projects go out on time by proactive communication with shop staff, the production planner, the engineering manager and the use of overtime as needed in accordance with the production schedule.
  • Take lead on troubleshooting, problem resolution, and functional testing of all projects.
  • Organize, log and maintain documentation on all equipment preventative maintenance schedule and ensure proper and safe functionality.
  • Conduct a Final Article Inspection on all products after shipping in collaboration with the Production Planner and Engineering Manager and communicate any inconsistencies between the final product and the Shop Copy drawings back to the design team.
  • Collaborate with the production planner, designers, purchasing, shop staff and management to ensure projects meet required schedules.
  • Conduct quarterly safety meetings in collaboration with management.
  • Initiate non- conformances and supplier issue documentation.
  • Ensure ISO 9001 documentation is complete and accurate and submit required records to the Production Coordinator.
  • Support ISO 9001 compliance within the shop and participate in internal audits.
  • Implementation, maintenance and sustain 5S initiatives in the shop.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Related experience with hydraulics system assembly, experience with hydraulic schematics, and actual hands-on start-up and troubleshooting experience is absolutely required.

Ability to read engineering drawings, including but not limited to hydraulic schematics, fabrication drawings, and electrical diagrams, is required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work safely with hoists, cranes, and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment.
  • Must be experienced and able to mentor in:
    • General assembly as it related to hydraulics and pneumatics.
    • Basic fabrication skills (welding, grinding, drilling, tapping, layout work).
    • Industrial painting and masking.
    • Electric motor wiring.
    • Experience with hydraulic test stands and pressure/leak testing equipment.
    • Multi-component hydraulic system testing and troubleshooting.
    • Hydraulic hose crimping and tube bending/flaring.
    • Lifting and rigging.
    • Understanding cleanliness requirements in fluid power.
  • Extensive Fluid Power training is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, problem solving, prioritization and organizational skills needed.
  • Functional PC skills.
  • Technical skills necessary to prepare and/or revise drawings, sketches, assemblies and schematics in accordance with specific guidelines.
