Summary
The Janitor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of 43 Housings legacy buildings. This position supports the safety, comfort, and well-being of residents by performing routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and exterior upkeep across multiple properties. This role requires travel between sites; therefore, access to a reliable vehicle is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs regular cleaning and disinfecting of common areas including lobbies, hallways, laundry rooms, offices, stairwells, windows, floors, and washrooms using appropriate equipment and materials.
- Cleans vacant suites as needed throughout the month to prepare for new tenants.
- Dust, vacuums, mops, polishes, and maintain floors, carpets, and windows.
- Keeps exterior building areas, sidewalks, and entrances clean and free of litter, debris, and hazards.
- Assists with basic seasonal tasks such as sweeping, watering plants, or light gardening.
- Performs light maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, plunging sinks and toilets, tightening fixtures, and reporting maintenance issues promptly to the Housing Supervisor.
- Monitors and reports any damage, safety hazards, or unusual activity at the sites.
- Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies and materials for all assigned buildings.
- Tracks supply usage, places orders as required and ensure proper storage and labeling of cleaning products.
- Follows safety protocols and uses cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with WHMIS standards.
- Ensure doors and windows are secured and alarms set when buildings are vacated.
- Works respectfully in residential environments, maintaining professionalism and discretion.
Required skills and qualifications
- Grade 10 education or equivalent.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, WHMIS, and safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
- Training and Experience
- Minimum of one (1) month of related cleaning experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience working in residential, multi-site, or social housing settings considered an asset.
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Physically able to perform cleaning and light maintenance duties.
- Bending and lifting boxes up to 25lbs.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and communicate clearly.
Working Conditions
- Travel required between multiple buildings within the Tri-Cities area. Must have appropriate car insurance coverage.
- Exposure to cleaning products, occasional unpleasant odors, and moderate physical activity.
Post Closing date - December 19, 2025
Location: Port Coquitlam
Hours: 25 hours per week. Monday to Friday
